Today’s outfit…

Nothing major; just spent the day shopping with Rikki, but it was good to let some of my PVCs come out of hiding since it wasn’t too hot today. Today is also the first time I’ve worn that PVC bra; I bought it at Sexyland last year for only $15! (Rick and I sometimes go for drives out there for a laugh…they actually have some cool clothes!)...so thought I'd give it some blog love.

Yesterday’s Outfit…

I found myself at Savers twice last week because my friend Dani was in town and they don’t have Savers in Sydney (I don’t know why…). Both times though I ‘accidently’ came home with two huge bags of clothes. These Dalmatian print jeans were one of the purchases.

Lately I’ve been trying to add more colour to my outfits because usually I just wear heaps of black but I swear this is possibly the most colourful outfit I’ve ever worn in my life! Ha!

When I first started the blog (4 months ago) I did a couple of thought/novelty posts to give you an idea of what I was about and also just to exercise the many thoughts floating around in my head; yet since have decided to stop with them. I now feel though that the odd novelty post is actually essential in understanding where I’m coming from and where my inspirations lie. They also give a greater understanding of PSYCH the brand.

I’ve said it before in those previous posts that I don’t really seek much of my inspiration from the fashion industry (though I do have a handful of my FAVOURITE designers) and have kept the same personal aesthetic for all of my adolescent and adult life; just slightly tweaking it from time to time.

Though I’m inspired by people, history, fellow artists, books etc… one of my main source of inspiration is music. Glam bands offer me the most inspiration in fact. Their styles were raw and unique; and that overall look of excess gets me excited. Specimen is one of those bands (amongst MANY) that I look to a lot and admire their iconic style; especially Jonny Slut. They're glam, dark and revolting… They paved the way for the deathrock/ goth aesthetic that is still being worn today.

PSYCH is glam and excessive because I’ve always surrounded myself with images like these and it's what I know, it’s what I like and it's who I am…

When you are limited it doesn’t mean things are hopeless or out of reach, it just means you need to improvise with what you DO have or have access to. And it doesn’t matter how much money you acquire you can’t buy creativity. They just don’t sell it anywhere in the world.

I bought these vintage 70s pyjama pants for a $1 at my local op shop ( aka thrift store) and thought if I pulled them up really high, wrapped the waist in a few belts and teamed them with some heels; that they’d look awesome as wide leg trousers…

Yesterday's Outfit...
As you may have noticed already, I find the heat extremely uninspiring. Outfit choices are just so limiting and I feel so ‘simple’ in summer wear.

I did buy this catsuit the other day though which I thought could help me out. It’s light and NOT synthetic (unlike the rest of my wardrobe) yet is still detailed and busy looking.

You may have noticed that I'm not one of those bloggers dripping in luxury labels. Unfortunately I don’t have that big a budget (yet) to work with… Not that it fazes me too much because I do love my clothes and sometimes it’s more fun and creative shifting through vintage stores. Because of this though, I’ll be honest in saying that I do wear my clothes more than once and rotate similar outfits at times; especially when I’m going somewhere local and just need to leave the house already.

Wore this last night to dinner and it is actually the first time I’ve worn the jacket (we had a brief cold weather week in Melbourne which was awesome!)…so thought I’d give it some blog love…

As the blog begins to flourish and grow I’ve now decided I want add a beauty component to it, as it’s also something (along with fashion, music and art) that I feel passionately about and plays a big part in my life. I never leave the house without my face and lips (I mean NEVER; not even at times I’ve been rushed to hospital…I let the pain wait). Call it ridiculous if you like but I see it as dedication to the art. I’ve always worn nail polish as well… In fact I can’t even remember the last time I had natural nails besides in between the next coat.

When my friend Dani was in town last month (come back soon!!) I noticed she had these gorgeous gold glitter nails and when I asked about them she told me she’d used this Sally Hansen brand of nail stickers. I’d seen them before but was slightly skeptical until I saw Dani’s nails which looked amazing! So taking her advice I finally decided to try the Zebra ones…Pretty happy with them! Fuck paying $65 or more to get them done professionally!

Today's trip to the 'burbs.
Went to visit the folks.
It was a long time coming but had to be done; so I thought I'd make the most of it by searching for goodies in the local Savers (which is a chain of HUGE thrift stores in Melbourne) while I was there.
These days it's a bit hit and miss since "Vintage" became 'in', but today I actually found some really awesome pieces!!

Not only do I struggle outfit- wise with the heat, but today was so hot that it also forced me to put my hair up in a ponytail which is a RARE occasion. Arg.

Patting my brother's kitty Tiger. Usually I don't get along with cats ( I'm more of a dog person) but today she wasn't being a crazy bitch and attemping to scratch my eyes out so we bonded.

Just finished this bustier I've been working on. It's made out of lace, jewels and this metallic purple fabric I found (not quite sure of the fabric type) and is boned. One of my favourite quotes is “…there is no beauty without some strangeness in the proportions…”. I read it somewhere years ago and it stuck with me ever since. I guess it’s because that’s how I’ve always seen the world. I don’t think the text book definition of “gorgeous, beautiful, hot, stunning” to be MY view of that. I think everything is made of energy and I think if someone or something gives off a unique or beautiful energy then that’s where true beauty lies. And that beauty isn’t always made of perfection on the outside; In fact I think it’s the flaws that make people or objects MORE beautiful in most cases…if that makes ANY sense to you… haha.

Strawberry Switchblade are possibly one of my biggest style inspirations (particularly Rose McDowell). They were a pop rock group from Glasgow, Scotland around in the 80s. Never quite made it big but they did however look SENSATIONAL!! And I think the appeal mainly stems from them NOT looking so perfect/ sounding kinda crappy; they’re just a little bit (or all) wrong and so am I….

As I said in a previous post…I seek a LOT of inspiration from music. It gets me charged. Without music I wouldn’t be here today. Music has got me through a lot of good AND bad times.

I don’t watch a lot of television or movies (I have a short attention span and quite often they bore me/ I get distracted) however though; I do religiously watch music videos and documentaries. I especially love a good rags to riches story and most music docos tell one. Being a Virgo I pay a lot of attention to detail and I’m so fascinated as to how my favourite artists got where they are today.

I adore Shirley Manson and I admired the way she spoke of Courtney Love in this interview. I admire any woman in fact that can praise her fellow lady. WHY are most girls threatened by STRONG and CONFIDENT women? Why DO they feel the need to bring other girls down in order to feel better about themselves? It’s stupid! We can ALL be great and we can ALL be gorgeous.

I think what Shirley spoke about in this interview really resonated with me and it sheds some light (briefly) on the topic of the tall poppy syndrome. Well look maybe it will bore you but thought I’d get personal and share anyways. And I think you should tell your best girlfriends today how much they mean to you and praise their special qualities because life’s short and at the end of the day we all leave this earth with what we came into it with… nothing.

Ok so if you've been following my tumblr then you probably have noticed that I like trashy glam imagery. I've been drawn to it for years and its who I am.
Music has always been a very powerful tool of inspiration and motivation for me..on all levels...aesthetically, musically, lyrically, attitude...EVERYTHING. So many times I've seen a band and been so blown away by their look that I've had to immediately find and listen to their music. Though I'm a designer I'd have to say that I know more about music and seek more inspiartion from bands than from the fashion industry. Perhaps because I can't relate to most labels??

Yes I think aesthetic is very important; though I do however feel that if the asethetic is not matched with an equal amount of depth, attitude and personality, then its not as powerful or striking. If there's no depth, it won't take your breath away. Not just with music but in all areas of life.

Having said that ...Peppermint Creeps is a band that I've put heaps of their photographs up on my tumblr because I appreciate the amount of effort that they put in with their attitude and look. I think they look really original and gross and I think its awesome. Their music is kinda crappy (which is what I like about it...) but they just take the piss and I think having a sense of humour is one of the most important things in life...and you'll definitely get a laugh out of their videos haha.

I need to draw. There's too many thoughts in my head and emotions and images and I need to express some of those darker ones through illustration otherwise they may come out in other more harmful/ less positive ways. When I'm drawing/ creating is the only time I'm ever truely at ease. Some people can stare at a blank wall and only see the wall; I stare at a blank wall and I see the world. My mind never stops.
